The task of the ‘perfect drawing for dad’ is more difficult than you think because the little main character, who speaks in the first person and is never seen, can’t decide: what drawing would please a dad like hers?

“A ball. Maybe three. More is better. No… lots and lots! Too many. Maybe Dad won’t like them.”

Her doubts multiply.

“How does Dad always know the way home? If he goes too far, mightn’t he forget? And where is Dad all day?”

Her mom reassures her: Dad is at his office, and that’s where he’ll hang the drawing she’s making for him. He loves her, and what he likes the most is being with her.
